Before any of the product announcements, it's worth saying plainly what CidTools actually is: a small operation building three specific tools, not a platform trying to become your whole toolchain.
Why three, and why these three
Each one started the same way — a real annoyance in our own day-to-day work that got fixed for ourselves first. Juggling Claude Code sessions across projects. Needing a query editor that didn't require opening a full IDE for one SELECT statement. Not being able to tell what was actually inside an .ico file we'd shipped. None of these started as a business plan; they started as "this is annoying, let's fix it," and only later as "other people probably deal with this too."
That's still the filter for whether a fourth tool ever gets built: did we need it ourselves first.
What that means in practice
No feature bloat chasing a roadmap nobody asked for. No subscription model, because a tool you fix an annoyance with once shouldn't need to keep charging you to keep working. No pretending three small Windows apps are a "platform" or an "ecosystem" — they're three separate tools that happen to share a storefront and a support inbox.
It also means updates get driven by what people actually report using the thing, not by a quarterly release calendar that needs new checkboxes to justify itself.
What's next
Ez Sql Plus and Icon Commander are both in the "almost there" stage — close enough to write about, not quite close enough to download yet. Follow this page for the actual dates, not speculation. Beyond those two, nothing new is currently planned — the fourth tool, if there ever is one, will be whatever we get annoyed by next.
