We mentioned last week that Ez Sql Plus was getting close, and that the diagram designer was one of the two pieces still getting rough edges sanded off. Since it's the feature we get asked about the most, it seemed worth a closer look before the product itself ships.
What it's for
Sometimes you're not writing a query — you're figuring out what the tables should even look like. The diagram designer is a canvas for that: drag tables onto it, draw the relationships between them, set keys and constraints, and see the shape of the schema as you build it instead of imagining it from a list of CREATE TABLE statements.
The part we're most pleased with
Once the diagram is right, it exports as a script that builds the database from scratch — so the diagram isn't just documentation after the fact, it's the actual source of truth you design from. Change the diagram, re-export, and you've got an updated creation script without hand-writing a single ALTER TABLE.
Still to do
Constraint editing on the canvas itself is functional but not as fast as we want it to be yet — right now it involves more clicking through a properties panel than we'd like. That's the polish we mentioned being mid-way through, and it's the main thing standing between this and a first release.
No download yet, but between this and the core editor being solid for weeks now, it shouldn't be much longer.
